Our 2017-2018 Concert Season:

Northport Symphony Orchestra Fall Concert

 Friday, November 17, 2017 @ 8 PM

 Northport High School

Our 2017-2018 performance season begins with a program full of music from France!

From "the French Mozart", our program begins with the Overture to François Adrien Boieldieu's opera Jean de Paris.

Next, we venture from the Mozart-like sound of Boieldieu, we venture to Emmanuel Chabrier, where his beautiful Suite Pastorale will evoke peaceful images of nature.

Our concert will conclude with a performance of Charles Gounod's Symphony No. 1, a work full of energy that inspired many other musicians of the era throughout Europe, such as Bizet, who's very own C Major Symphony shares many similarities.

Northport Symphony Orchestra Winter Concert

 Friday, February 2, 2018 @ 8 PM

 Northport High School

Following our voyage to France in the fall, join us as we venture east to Russia, where we put on a performance of (mostly!) music from Russian composers. From Borodin to Kalinnikov to Rachmaninoff, the music is simultaneously powerful and beautiful.

Joining us for this concert is Amr Selim, an Egyptian hornist who is quickly establishing a reputation as one of today’s foremost horn players. His performances draw audiences wherever his horn takes him and across different musical genres. Selim will be performing Richard Strauss' Horn Concerto No. 1.

Northport Symphony Orchestra Spring Concert

Our 2017-2018 concert season concludes with a performance of works by a few of the most popular names in all of classical music.

The music of Antonio Vivaldi - the "Red Priest" - opens our concert, and features our trumpets. His Double Trumpet Concerto in C major, RV 537, is considered one of Vivaldi's best-known creations, but it is one that we also know practically nothing about! It is not known where or WHEN Vivaldi wrote the concerto, but we do know that it is his only work for trumpets and strings.

Christine Doré joins us for a performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's 20th Piano Concerto in D Minor, K. 466. Doré has been hailed for her nimble-fingered brilliance and wonderfully expressive piano playing. She enjoys an active and varied career as a chamber musician, accompanist, soloist and teacher.

From Mozart, we venture to Ludwig van Beethoven and his Symphony No. 8 in F Major, Op. 93, which Beethoven fondly referred to as his "little Symphony in F". The symphony was premiered in at a concert in which Beethoven's Seventh Symphony was also played. When asked by his pupil Carl Czerny why the Eighth was less popular than the Seventh, Beethoven is said to have replied, "because the Eighth is so much better."

Other Appearances during our 2017-2018 season:

Throughout our performance season, we are often invited to give special performances at various locales. Since these are not part of our regularly scheduled concert season, these performances are not always open to the public, and are not always free. Please read each event's details carefully before determining if you are able to attend.

Northport Symphony Orchestra Presents: The Best of Season Eleven

 Sunday, June 3, 2018 @ 2:30 PM

Have you ever watched a classical music concert and wondered, "How is this all possible?". Join the Northport Symphony Orchestra as they "pull back the curtain" and dissect the complexities of music in an informal setting. Gain a bit of insight into just how a composer - often someone no different than you or I - can use their creativity and knowledge of musical concepts to create a work of art.

The centerpiece of this program will be Beethoven's Eighth Symphony
